World heritage site Hallsatt

The UNESCO World Heritage town of Hallstatt is nestled between Lake Hallstatt and the Salzberg. On a walk through the town and a visit to the Salt Mountain and the Salt Worlds you will experience the 7,000 year old history.

The emperor's villa in Bad Ischl is a must see during your stay.

The imperial Bad Ischl

Follow in the footsteps of Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth, who honored Bad Ischl as a summer resort. Magnificent villas, cultural event highlights, shopping and city walks await you.

The traditional Bad Goisern

Bad Goisern is not only known as a sporting mecca, but also especially for handicrafts and tradition. A visit to the Hand.Werk.Haus is highly recommended, a walk around and through Bad Goisern provides further insights.

The king Dachstein

The highest mountain in Upper Austria follows you in Gosau at Dachstein, Bad Goisern, Obertraun, Hallstatt and Ausseerland. Everywhere he shows himself from a different, unique side. Looking at him, you realize that nature is superior to man.

Bad Aussee

The geographical center of Austria awaits you with tradition, customs and culture. Nowhere can you see more beautiful dirndls and lederhosen than in Bad Aussee. Nestled between mountains and lakes, the city also offers many opportunities to be active in sports.

The charming St. Wolfgang

St. Wolfgang is a household name for everyone. The small village directly at the lake Wolfgangsee impresses with its unique location and the cozy, inviting atmosphere of the place. A boat trip on the lake Wolfgangsee and a trip to the Schafberg are a must-do if you are in the Salzkammergut.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IN THE SALZKAMMERGUT

3-lakes-tour

Lake Grundlsee, lake Toplitzsee and lake Kammersee – the three lakes in the Ausseerland radiate a certain tranquility and make you marvel at the sight. The 3 lakes tour can be completed by boat, but of course also on foot.

Hut tour with the (e-)bike

Up on the bike and off on the mountain – whether with electric or without electric support, the hut stop you have certainly earned and you get to know the region.

Snow shoe hike to the 5fingers

After a short snowshoe tour you reach the 5fingers, a platform jutting out of the rock at Dachstein Krippenstein. Only the brave dare to go out. You have to try it!

Powder skiing

Whether on the Postalm, the Feuerkogel, in the Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein, in the ski area Dachstein West, on the Loser or Tauplitz, there is super powder everywhere on snow days, which you should definitely enjoy with your skis or snowboard.

Tobogganing

On the toboggan or sled, ready, go! And before or after that, a hearty stop at a mountain hut. There is almost no better and usually more fun excursion. And is suitable for small, large and larger!

WHAT YOU HAVE TO EAT IN THE SALZKAMMERGUT

Fresh fish from the lake

If you are already at the lake you should also eat fresh fish. Recommended e.g. at the Seeraunzn and the Steegwirt in Bad Goisern or at the Koppenrast in Obertraun.

“Kasspotzn” – cheese noodles

“Kasspotzn” belong to the Salzkammergut like “Sachertorte” to Vienna. They are best at a hut with a view.

“Kaiserschmarrn”

The “Kaiserschmarrn” – the emperor’s dessert – can be found on almost every menu in the Salzkammergut. A dessert, which one should have enjoyed during the stay in the Salzkammergut. Best with “Hollerröster”.

WHICH EVENT YOU HAVE TO JOIN IN THE SALZKAMMERGUT

Daffodil festival

In the Ausseerland you can find numerous daffodils in spring. Since these are poisonous for the animals, they are picked every year and not simply thrown away, but from them colorful and unique sculptures are built, which you can admire every year in May at the daffodil festival.

Gosau’s balloon festival

Nowhere else you will see so many balloons in the snow and in the sky as during the balloon festival in Foaus at Dachstein. A must-see during your winter holidays!

Happening in the beginning of January.

Christmas markets – advent markets

Christmas spirit comes at the latest with a visit to the advent markets in the Salzkammergut. A special atmosphere awaits you between mountains and lakes in the small traditional villages.
